On December 16th, 1773, Frances Rotch returned from a meeting with then Governor Hutchinson to report that the governor would not allow the “tea ships” to leave Boston Harbor. At that moment, Sam Adams stood at the pulpit and said, “This meeting can do nothing more to save the country.” This was the signal to the Sons of Liberty to begin their march to Griffin’s Wharf, loosely disguised as Mohawk Indians, to destroy the “despicable tea”. This is also the date we hope to join with the Old South Meeting House to create a signature event for the city of Boston in the recreation of the Boston Tea Party of so many years ago.
