One of the city’s most well known landmarks, Boston Common is a 50-acre public park and the anchor of the Emerald Necklace, a series of connected parks in Boston. It’s also the oldest park in the United States and has a storied past, rich with history and interesting events. The Common, as many refer to it, played numerous roles throughout its existence. It has been used as the setting for public hangings, a campground for the British troops prior to the American Revolution and a gathering place for soapbox speeches by legendary figures including Martin Luther King, Jr., Gloria Steinem and Pope John II.

Freedom Trail
Boston Common is the official starting place for the Freedom Trail, although visitors can begin wherever they wish. This walking tour is 2.5 miles and winds its way to 16 of the most historically significant sites in the city. You can enjoy the trail at your own pace or take a guided tour. Stroll by the most popular and historical landmarks in Boston including the Park Street Church, Massachusetts State House, site of the Boston Massacre, Old South Meeting House, Granary Burying Ground, Benjamin Franklin Statue, Paul Revere House and more.
Faneuil Hall
A historic site that includes many shops, restaurants and entertainment venues, Faneuil Hall was once a meeting hall and the site of various speeches by famed colonists Samuel Adams, James Otis and others. It was built in 1740 and continues to be an epicenter of activity in the city.
New England Aquarium
At the New England Aquarium, visitors of all ages can get a close look at some of the world’s most unique marine animals. There are thousands of them residing in this popular Boston attraction including sea turtles, penguins, seals, sea lions, jellyfish, whales, anaconda and much more. The giant, four-story touch tank is a favorite among guests and is home to a coral reef, hundreds of Caribbean reef animals and fish.
Public Garden
Adjacent to Boston Common, this beautiful public park was established in 1837 and was the first public botanical garden in America. Home to a diverse array of unusual plants, monuments, fountains, the lagoon and the famous Swan Boats, the garden provides an opportunity for everyone to enjoy magnificent natural beauty.
Newbury Street
For those who love to shop, Newbury Street is the destination of choice near Boston Common. This renowned district encompasses eight blocks of salons, boutiques, dining and more.
Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum
This one-of-a-kind museum sits on a floating barge at the end of the Congress Street Bridge. Unlike any museum you’ve ever visited, the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum is an interactive, multi-sensory experience where you’ll have the opportunity to participate in the events that took place on that fateful night more than 200 years ago. You’ll even get to throw tea overboard!
Beacon Hill
One of Boston’s most beautiful and historic neighborhoods is Beacon Hill, known for its narrow, gas-lit streets and upscale residences. A stroll along the brick sidewalks will treat you to views of the Federal Style rowhouses and transport you back in time.
Copley Square
Located in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood, Copley Square was named after famed painter John Singleton Copley. There are a bunch of interesting things to see here including the Old North Church, the Boston Public Library, the John Hancock Tower, the Trinity Church and the statue of John Singleton Copley.
Charles River Esplanade
This scenic 17-mile stretch in the Back Bay overlooks the beautiful Charles River and is a nice place to enjoy the outdoors. There are various paths to walk, jog, rollerblade or bike and if you’ve got the kids along, a nice playground. The Esplanade is home to various concerts, movies and performances and is always great for people watching.
Frog Pond
There is always something to do and see at Frog Pond, located within Boston Common. During the spring and summer there’s a splash pool and in the winter an ice rink and skating school. Enjoy a refreshing drink and a snack at the café and the lovely scenery of this iconic Boston attraction.
