Dr. Joseph Warren was an American doctor, personal physician to John Adams, and played a leading role in the Sons of Liberty. Warren enlisted the help of Paul Revere and William Dawes on April 18, 1775 to spread the alarm that the British garrison in Boston was setting out to raid Concord and arrest the rebels John Hancock and Samuel Adams.
Warren participated in the
battles of Lexington and Concord and was commissioned a Major General in the colony’s militia just prior to the Battle of Bunker Hill. But rather than exercising his rank, Dr. Joseph Warren chose to serve alongside the men as a private soldier. He was killed during the combat on June 17, 1775. His death galvanized the colonial forces.
